192, 193/365 - Flowers in Black and White

"Onion flower?!", you say? "Certainly not!" Yes indeed it is -- this is the flower of the green onion which I left to go to seed in my garden. I'm having a ton of fun playing around with shallow depth of field.

... and have I mentioned lately how I really like taking black and white flower photos?

138/365 - Tulip

A bright red tulip.

A sunlit Tulip, also growing wild in my back yard.

Incidental note: Red is one of the hardest colors for digital cameras to capture faithfully and with good details. This one took a lot of effort to get right, and still required a decent amount of post-processing!

A sunlit daffodil growing wild in my back yard. I have no clue what exact species this is -- help on that front would be appreciated!

130/365 - Forget-me-nots

Pretty blue flowers.

A beautiful mid-spring flower: the Forget-me-not. Amusingly, whenever I find these, I can never remember their name! I have a number of these growing around my yard, all volunteers.

Purple flowers, reaching towards the sun. Also notice the less-than-stellar bokeh of my Nikon 18-200 at 200mm.

92/365 - Crocus

You know it's spring when the crocuses start to pop up! I've been watching for a while, but these are the first that I've seen pushing up through the old grass. There were only a few white ones, and even fewer purple ones (which weren't surviving nearly as well as this lovely one).

Poppy

A bright red-orange poppy on a bright green stem, with a deep green background.
It's poppy time!
Continuing the spring into summer flower theme, enjoy this poppy blooming in my parent's garden!

Apple Blossoms

White and pink apple blossoms against a deep blue sky.
Your basic late spring apple blossoms

It is what it says on the tin: apple blossoms! Of course, I didn't find these just anywhere... I came upon them while following the old Isle Royale railroad, while in search of remnants of the Isle Royale and Huron mines south of Houghton. While I wasn't very successful on the mines, I did enjoy a lovely hike on a warm and bright late spring day.

Little Bells

Bell-shaped white flowers dangling from their stem.
Pretty little bells on their stem.
If you like this photo, you can order a print!

I have no clue what these pretty little flowers are, but they a certainly pretty -- and also little. I found these a while ago, up on the old Q&TL railroad, lit up by the sun. Enjoy!

Purple Crocus

A bright purple crocus, lit by the sun from behind
It's spring up on the hill!

Now it's really spring -- the crocuses are out! This lovely purple one was blooming up on Quincy Hill. I caught it in the late afternoon when the sunlight was lighting it up from behind. We still have plenty of ice and snow, but not too much more is falling -- until of course the traditional graduation day blizzard.
